Yellow Week 2 - Comenius inspired activity

During the second yellow week the current group of Subsidiary Diploma students are producing work inspired by the theme of the Comenius exchange programme, which is 'food'. Over the next two years students from the department will have the opportunity to visit different countries and cities, with the aim to meet students and to sample the local cuisine.
Today the students are working in three different groups. Each group is working on a set activity for either a morning or afternoon, before switching over to the next activity. The activities on offer are a large scale drawing, which encourages the students to work large-scale across walls and floors. A sculptural outcome, which encourages students to use wire to create a three-dimensional response. And a relief printing workshop, which requires of the students to first build and then print their own large-scale printing plate, which is made from paper and other found materials.
On Thursday all work produced during the yellow week activities will be showcase in a final exhibition, which will be held at Outline, Sutton Coldfield.

Bologna!

From the 16th -20th January, students from different creative arts and language courses at the college had the opportunity to visit Bologna, Italy, as one of the Comenius project visits. This was a multi-national meeting, with over 50 students and 20 staff from Italy, Spain, Czech republic, Turkey, Bulgaria, Latvia and of course the UK, meeting to work on the project together.

We participated in many activities, including creative workshops, visits to museums, an evening invitation with food prepared by the Italian students, and also an opportunity to attend a renaissance dinner.

On the Saturday some of the students took a day visit to the beautiful city of Florence.

More images from the visit can be seen on the Comenius blog site: galauk.wordpress.com

Comenius Visit

Say ‘dobar den’ and ‘buon giorno’ this week…

On Thursday and Friday this week we will be paying host to students from Bulgaria and Italy who will be producing photographs and drawings from their short stay in Birmingham. There is also the chance to meet many teachers who will also be here from Latvia, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic and Bulgaria. So why not say hello!
This is the start of a Comenius project that the college is participating in. Over the course of the next two years, our students will be given the opportunity to participate in a project based upon gastronomic traditions and its representation in art, literature and life. Through this the students from Outline will be communicating with their peers from the six other countries involved via the web, as well as visiting them at set times throughout the project. Funding for this has come through the Lifelong Learning Programme.

Leonardo Mobility Student Exchange-Prague.

Leonardo Mobility is an Exchange programme that gives students on the Extended Diploma Art & Design Course from Birmingham Metropolitan College the opportunity to go and study at a college in Prague, Czech Republic for three weeks. It is the chance to meet students from a very historic yet modern city in the heart of Europe, and engage in different cultural, social and educational experiences.
This is open to students who have shown a high degree of responsibility towards their learning, with a good attendance and achievement record. Places on the exchange are limited and anybody expressing an interest will have to go through a formal interview. If you would like to know more, then please speak to your personal tutor.
